Amazon Is A Us Company--why Aren't Us-based Mturkers Paid, The Equivalent Of Legal Min. Wage For Time Worked?

Postby Amhuinn » Mon Jan 20, 2014 10:58 pm

When the time estimated to complete a HIT, or project, is computed by Requester, the minimum amount they should be allowed to set their compensation rate at should be the U.S. minimum wage equivalent for that time worked.(More is always welcome, of course - but now we're dreaming.) This should be built into Amazon's MTurk system so that no work could be offered below that rate. Why is this not operative? It seems like a violation of U.S. labor law. Would love to see class action lawsuit to settle this.

M-turkers are not employees... At best, they are independant consultants, and you don't have to pay them minimium wage.

From what I've seen, they get what they pay for.

Please don't let my daughter or son know about this...I don't think little Mr. Piggy Bank can afford minimum wage for the chores they do for the house...
