Birth Certificate Question?

Let me try and explain.

My mom went off and had an affair with a man by the last name Bailey. My birth certificate says my name is S--- Allen Bailey. Well my mom never married this man and re-married a man with the last name Cook. On my social security card, it shows S--- Allan Cook and on my drivers licence it shows the same thing. I wanted to fix the middle name because some where in my life (55) the middle name went from Allen to Allan. Went the the DMV and they say that they need my birth certificate to change the name from Allan to Allen however the BC shows my last name as Bailey so my question is am I able to just take my BC and have my name totally changed to the BC name, which is S--- Allen Bailey and move on with my life? I am getting married in a month and would like her to take that last name. It appears no legal name change ever was done so what do you all think before I have to hire a family law expert, I rely on your expert advise. I realize if I do change last names to what my BC says, I will have to change all my credit cards etc.

You can get a legal name change by online companies like legalzoom.com It costs about $150 and they take care of filing all the papers etc.

You should contact probate court about getting your name changed legally - middle and surname.
