Certainteed Windows

Postby Onslowe » Sun Jun 15, 2014 4:28 pm

2005-2006..all new cetainteed windows installed in my home. They are junk ! Ice forms on the inside class in the winter...and now some are fogging between the panes of class.Certainteed sold out to Viwinco...soon after I bought {unethical}.Viwinco will send me replacement glass only { because they no longer have the complete sash } and I must hire and pay a contracter to install.

Certainteed could care less !!!!

ANSWER: Dear Brian,

There doesn't seem to be a question in your posting.  It seems more like a statement so, I'm not really sure what type of direction or advice you may be looking for.  That said, I have done some research on Certainteed windows for you and here is what I have found.

Apparently, you are not alone with your complaint about Certainteed windows.  Go to:  http://vinyl-replacementwindow.net/2008/09/29/certainteed-windows-reviews/ and read the reviews there.  It seems that 9 out of 10 people who have had Certainteed windows installed have had all types of problems with them.

You will also want to go to:  http://www.miwd.com/certainteed/CertainTeed%20warranty.pdf where the Certainteed lifetime warranty is in print.  Include this warranty information with the information you provide to your State's Attorney's General.  The warranty is very clear and states that they will stand behind their windows for both parts and labor for as long as you own your windows, however, the full cost of labor and materials are only covered for 5 years from the date of installation so if your windows were installed prior to November 18, 2006, you will not qualify for that portion of the warranty but you would still qualify for the replacement parts which, will most likely have to be installed at your cost.  Unfortunately, that is fairly standard practice in the industry.  If you have to pay for the installation, try to find a local person who is "hungry" for work and who will do a really good job for a very reasonable price.

I would first, document everything down to the most minute detail and file a formal complaint with your Attorney's General Office.  I'd also try to connect with the others on the site listed above because one of the posts mentioned that they are contemplating a class action lawsuit against Certainteed because of the faulty windows.  You may want to become part of that class action suit.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Dave

There is now way to know how many people are in a class action lawsuit until the representing attorneys make that information public.  I would recommend that you try to track down whether or not a class action is being pursued and, if so, see if you can become part of it.  I hope this helps.
