Changing The Father On My Birth Certificate In Delaware

Changing The Father On My Birth Certificate In Delaware

Postby Eyton » Mon Jan 20, 2014 10:26 am

Hi, I want advice please! I'm 34 yrs old. my father who raised me and who is mentioned on my birth certificate as my father, died ten years ago. Lately my mom has informed me he wasn't my biological father. this natural father lives in belgium, and I'd prefer to have him thought to be my father. How do you start this? which state offices do I want support from? do I want an attorney? thanks ahead of time for just about any help! <br />

i'm asking and believe he would do this to help me get my paperwork sorted, but i don't think he's dying to hang out with me on weekends to see bundesliga games in the stadium or anything... thats the impression i get.

I don't see any way under Delaware law; see my prior post. I suggest you consult a family lawyer, as there may be something you can do that's not obvious from the statutes.

It appears that any paternity action would be time-barred, as you have a presumed father. (See Delaware Code, § 8-606). Delaware permits the adoption of adults. You can also look into whatever options might exist in Germany under German law.
