If you go into the reserves, you'll know where you'll be working before you sign anything. If you go active duty, you can get a guaranteed district in your contract but that includes South Carolina (I don't know if you can get a guaranteed state). If you go active without a guaranteed district, you can put it on your dream sheet but ultimately it comes down to where the Coast Guard needs you (and a lot more people put down FL, CA and HI than AK or New England, so a lot of people don't go where they'd want). Talk to your recruiter to see what they can guarantee you and make sure its in the contract (although CG recruiters tend to be more honest than some from the other services).Do you also know that the Coast Guard is in the middle east patrolling the water ways along side with he Navy? You will go where they need you.
