Community Service Hours

Postby Devereau » Tue Mar 01, 2016 8:25 am

What would be the best way to gain community service hours? I need them for my economics class and I don't know what to do since I already finished my hours. My teacher said that in order to get an 'A' or a 'B' in the class, we have to do community service hours.Thank you.

Community Service Hours

I don't remember how many hours I did, probably 20 or so. It was easy work and just involved labeling some materials they had on hand. Libararies are almost always in need of volunteers, so that's one to consider. You might also want to consider looking at these sites and volunteering for something they've got listed to see if it appeals to you more:http://www.nationalservice.org/http://www.communityservice.org/I hope this helps!!

There are tons of places to volunteer.  I think you?re deciding factor should be what would you enjoy doing the most?  If you enjoy it your volunteers hours would be completed in no time!  Think about your favorite hobby and find something related to it.  For example if you are a painter- why not volunteer at an art museum?  Also, what do you plan on doing after school?  If you plan on going to go to school to be a social worker- why not volunteer at a women?s shelter? Since you need the community service hours, using them to learn more about a future career goal, a hobby you enjoy, and most of all yourself will also make it worthwile(besides the obvious of helping people).

I once did community service by volunteering at a library I don't remember how many hours I did, probably 20 or so. It was easy work and just involved labeling some materials they had on hand. Community Service Hours

I don't know how many hours you need but there are so many things that you could do.  You could work in a soup kitchen, help with a Girl / Boy Scout troop, or work at the hospital.  Keep an eye on your local paper.  You may see highway clean ups and things like that.  Also if you can find something like a VFW(Veterans of Foreign Wars) post, they do all kinds of community service.  Is there a military base around?  Many of your base organizations have several service related things going on year round.   Hope this helps.

A great way to complete your community service is to volunteer at a local library or soup kitchen. If you are really busy, there is always Community Service Help. They're the only online Community Service portal for court-ordered community service, though, I don't see any reason why you couldn't use it for school.Good luck with your community service!   DetroitMom 63 months ago http://www.communityservicehelp.com

Community Service Hours

I'm not sure if you are in highschool or not but key club in highschool was a great way for me to do contribute to the community. All hospitals that i've ever seen have a volunteer program where you can do simple things such as filing paperwork in your sparetime, or just checking visitors in! You can also look into doing childcare for shelters in the area. If there are any foodbanks in your city call them up and see if they need volunteers - im sure they do! You could even volunteer with your local health department. They usually have programs where you can hand out free condoms at local clubs or bars to people. Lots of ideas! I've spent most of my life volunteering so im full of ideas. My parents both encouraged lots of volunteering throughout my life. I love giving back to my community in any way possible.

Find something that you enjoy doing and go for it. Here are some random suggestions to give you an idea of the breadth of things out there you could do: tutoring children or volunteering to help out in a school working on an organic co-operative farm getting involved on a Habitat for Humanity house building project doing some environmental clean-up work reading to elderly people in an assisted living facility join a community service organization such as Rotary, Youth Service America, etc.(depending on your age) Here are some sites with other suggestions for community service projects: http://epa.gov/teachers/community-svc-projects.htm http://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/envrnmnt/drugfree/sa1lk24.htm   These sites are more specifically about helping to link you up to specific volunteer opportunities in your local community: http://www.dosomething.org/ http://www.idealist.org/ http://www.servenet.org/ http://www.volunteermatch.org/ http://www.volunteersolutions.org/ http://www.networkforgood.org/volunteer/ http://www.volunteer.gov/gov/ http://www.usafreedomcorps.gov/ http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/   As you can see there are LOTS of opportunities. Your problem won't be finding somewhere to plug in and serve your community, it will be narrowing down the choices to something you really would like to do.
