Curious About What To Expect From My Spanish 101 Class

Postby Cornal » Sun Mar 06, 2016 2:13 am

I start tonight and it's such a long long long class(wont end until Dec.) I was hoping I could get some insight on what to expect this class to b like? I envision like in kindergarten the big lined paper where we wrote our abc's lol! I guess I'm just curious as to how were going to learn this much needed language skill because if it's going to be simpler than I think it will be I need to sign up for a basic math class too this semester.

Curious About What To Expect From My Spanish 101 Class

It depends on how you do with languages. Did you take a language in high school? I took Spanish 1 and 2. I did not find foreign languages to be an easy subject.   You can expect the first day to be told what your name is in Spanish. Each student will say what their name is in Spanish. From then on you will be called this. You will learn how to count, the days of the week, the months. By the end of the class you should be able to have a conversation with someone in Spanish.   If you begin to have any problems with the class, I would strongly recommend you getting a tutor.   You mentioned needing a basic math class. Is math easy for you? If math is not the hardest thing in the world for you, then I am sure that you will be able to do both classes at the same time. Taking one tough class and an easy one would work good for you.   Good luck to you! I am sure that you will do great.

Predator replied to post #2: 3 Fine, thanks! When I took Spanish, I took four semesters of it--starting-off with a "A", then a "B", then a "C", and finally a "D". My advice would be to stop at 101. 91 months ago

I had a 4.0 average until I hit Spanish. I worked my tail off and barely managed a C. My instructor said that once people are past about 7, SOME people's brains just can't easily wrap their brains around a new language. Grrrrrr! I was so ticked off by all this...I stayed in Spanish all the way through high school and college. Yes, stubborn I am! It didn't get any easier but I DID get to the point where I could follow most conversations...I just couldn't think what I wanted to say fast enough to take part. I think it is a little like the people who can play musical instruments or paint...there is an element of natural talent involved. So here's hoping you are one of those who take to it like a duck to water!
