Hi Sherry,
Thanks for writing to me. Sorry for the delay but we had a hurricane disaster here. Thank you for your patience. It is important to feed your dogs 4-6x a day to keep her sugar levels stablized.
For your information, there are certain natural cures that you can add to your dog's treatment. The following herbs will help your pet live normally despite having the disease.
Some examples of such natural herbs and teas are:
1. Bejak
Bejak is an herb which has been very popular since prehistoric times. It has been effective for diabetes as well as for other problems related to abnormal urination. Bejak has natural properties that can help reduce the presence of blood sugar. This is perfect for dogs whose body system is slowly deteriorating because of the disease.
2. Vinegar
Vinegar can be given to dogs with diabetes to help alleviate their condition. The most popular healthy vinegar these days is apple cider vinegar. Just add a few drops of it to your dog's water and it will greatly boost the effect of your pet's current medications. With regular use, it is possible for your pet to live more comfortably with the symptoms brought about by diabetes. 3. Karela
Karela is another herb that can help diabetes patients. This herb can stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin that the body can use. Other than it, it can also rectify abnormalities of the dog's digestive tract. It can improve the absorption of food in the stomach. 4. Cinnamon
Cinnamon can also help dogs with diabetes. It can be sprinkled sparingly in your dog's food. Be sure to put just enough to help the condition, but not too much that your dog can smell it and dislike the food. Cinnamon works by substituting insulin in the blood. Cinnamon doesn't mesh well with sugar so make sure that you don't add any sweeteners to your dog's food if you intend to put cinnamon to it. 5. Gurmar
Gurmar is believed to have the ability to maintain your pet's blood sugar level at a highly optimized state. Gurmar's other name is Gymnema Sylvestre. It is a type of herb that has been used for a long time. It treats most abnormalities related to urine as well. It stimulates the pancreas to secrete insulin in the right proportions. 6. Grapefruit
Grapefruit can help your dog greatly in managing its weight. This natural remedy is most effective with overweight dogs. Whenever you feel that your dog is getting fat due to diabetes, try to add some grapefruit juice into its drinking water. Grapefruit is conducive to losing weight. 7. Herbal extracts
The extracts of multiple herbal plants such as bitter melon, fenugreek seeds, bitter gourd, and turmeric can help greatly in keeping your dog in good health despite being diabetic. You can add all of these herbs together and make a tea. Try to give it to your pet on a daily basis for best effects. If your dog doesn't like its taste, try to put a few drops to its water up until he gets used to it. http://www.nativeremedies.com/petalive/glucoensure-normal-blood-sugar-levels-dog
Karela, Bilberry and Galega Officinalis fortifies the pancreas, thus encouraging insulin production that the canine can use. Karela is also known to aid in the absorption of food and increases the efficacy of the digestive system. The herb Gurmar(Gymnema Sylvestre), like bejak, help rectify urinary problems and more than that, maintains appropriate levels of blood sugar in the body.
Chromium is another element very helpful in keeping the canine healthy. It not only balances the blood sugar levels of the dog; it also maintains optimal cholesterol levels—reducing risks of heart problems. You should also look out for supplements rich in vitamins A, B and C. A robust immune system is invaluable to sick dogs battling ailments like diabetes.
The proper diet and natural remedies can be effective in controlling milder forms of diabetes. However, switching to a proper diet and using natural remedies to support insulin can sometimes lead to the decreased use or elimination of insulin. A beneficial diet is one that consists of mostly raw meats and some vegetables, fruits, and even eggs. Sardines contain fatty acids which can add additional protection.
It is important to feed diabetic dogs three to four times a day. This helps to control the rise and fall of blood sugar throughout the day and prevents it from falling to dangerously low levels between feedings.
Some supplements help stabilize glucose levels. Among them are:
*Chromium, which balances glucose and cholesterol levels. It also reduces the risk of heart disease.
*Vitamin C prevents cataracts, protects the kidneys, and controls blood sugar. Vitamin C is also instrumental in strengthening the immune system.
*Vitamin E reduces the need for insulin, controls blood sugar levels, improves insulin action, and prevents oxidative stress, thereby strengthening the immune system.
*Magnesium guards against high urinary loss and a magnesium deficiency could lead to retinal damage and heart disease.
*Vitamin B-6 prevents neuropathy.
*Zinc lessens the effects of diabetes.
*Raw apple cider vinegar in your pet's water bowl is also very effective Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/028774_canine_diabetes_natural_remedies.html#ixzz1Wu1
It is important to void nitrates, nitrites and nitrosamines which are found in most sandwich type meats. Nitrates can also be found in drinking water so give filtered water to your dog. A study evaluated the drinking water in Colorado and found a correlation between the concentrations of nitrates in the water and the incidence of insulin-dependent diabetes. The study concluded that the toxic concentration of nitrosamines triggered free -radical production, which in turn damaged the insulin producing cells of the pancreas. In Sweden consume a diet rich in whole grains, legumes, vegetables, fresh fruits, nuts(except peanuts), and seeds. They should avoid refined products including white refined sugar, caffeine and alcohol. They also should avoid consumption of meat. In type II diabetes obesity is the major factor. With an exercise program and a dietary change, diabetes can be controlled and insulin treatment is not required. Exercise will help the person with diabetes to achieve or maintain a normal body weight. Through exercise, the diabetic individual will reduce blood glucose levels, thus improving blood glucose(sugar) control. It is important though, that individual monitor the blood sugar level before and after exercise to see if they need to modify the insulin dose to prevent a hypoglycemic(i.e. dangerously low blood sugar) reaction. Along with eating healthy and exercising, taking nutritional supplements are also important. Many studies have found the effect of supplements of Magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B, copper, nicotinamide(niacin), manganese, fish oils(omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids), and zinc along with Chromium have all been shown to benefit diabetic I or diabetic II individuals. Vitamin E is helpful because of its antioxidant and also because it plays a role in preventing some of the oxidation-induced blood vessel problem to which diabetics are susceptible. Vitamin C helps to reduce the risk of oxidation. Fish oils also help to protect blood vessels. Magnesium deficiency has been contributed to a reduced insulin production and it has also been associated with glucose intolerance. Studies have shown that copper and manganese have been shown to improve glucose control. Vitamin B 6, deficiency have been shown to reduce both serum and pancreatic insulin levels. It also contributes to degenerative changes in pancreatic beta cells and to abnormal glucose tolerance. Zinc contributes to blood sugar regulation. Chromium can help regulate cholesterol and blood pressure levels and contribute to healthy weight loss. Therefore, chromium helps the body metabolize sugar and supports the synthesis of fat and cholesterol. Other causes can include structural problems in the cranium and spine, environmental toxins, side effects of medications, vaccinations and emotional trauma. All these stressors deplete the body's vital energy allowing a genetic predisposition to actualize and make it difficult for the body to repair and fight against viral, bacterial and parasitic invaders. As has been known for thousands of years, the thymus gland is the seat of the life energy, the "thymos". A healthy active thymus gland makes for vibrant and positive health since the thymus gland plays a significant role in immunology. Any type of stress, first weakens the thymus gland(actually causes the thymus gland to shrink) resulting in a greater vulnerability towards disease. Lymphocytes, in an immature state, come to the thymus from the bone marrow. Under the influence of the thymus hormones, these cells mature, then leave the thymus and settle in the lymph nodes and spleen where they give rise to other generations of lymphocytes called T-cells. The thymus gland continues to secrete hormones and to train and export T-cells until late in life. The thymus prepares the T-cells to do its work- to distinguish self from non self and to destroy foreign cells. This role known as immunological surveillance is directly concerned with resistance to infections and to chronic diseases like diabetes. Studies have shown that many diabetics have a common fluke parasite known as Eurytrema. Through the repeated consumption of beef and its bi-products, the pancreas is continually being re-infected with the parasite. In addition it has been shown that the accumulation of wood alcohol(methanol) in the pancreas provides a good breeding ground for the pancreatic fluke. Surprisingly methanol is found in many popular foods, either through packaging or preparation, including bottled water, soda pop and even baby formula! By killing this parasite with the proper remedy and removing the wood alcohol both from the diet and from the body, the need for insulin can be cut in half in three weeks or sooner!
Increase fiber intake. Take the Energy Revitalization System vitamin powder. The vitamins B12, B6 and Inositol can help prevent(or heal) diabetic nerve injury. Treating the magnesium deficiency routinely caused by the diabetes helps decrease the risk of heart disease(do not take if you have kidney failure without your doctor's OK though). The antioxidants may decrease the damage from the high sugar, and other components may help increase insulin sensitivity. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased diabetes risk as well. 7. Take the supplement lipoic acid 300 mg 2x day to prevent and treat diabetic nerve pain. 8. If you have diabetic nerve injury, add Acetyl-L-Carnitine 2,000 mg a day. Early research suggests that Coenzyme Q10 200 mg a day may help. 9. If you develop heart problems, see "Treating Heart Disease Naturally." Cinnamon helps in bring down the sugar levels in the blood to normal. It helps in curing appetite loss and acidityWe also took a look at the blood, and discovered that most if not all Type 2 diabetics are deficient in several key nutrients, e.g. Omega-3s, magnesium, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, CoQ10, water, amino acids, etc. In other words, the cells are suffering from a nutritional starvation.
healing powers of food such as vegetables, greens, fish, legumes and plant oils, and filtered water. Interestingly, a diabetic's body is fighting inflammation, oxidative stress, and toxicity. Drugs actually cause more inflammation, oxidative stress, and toxicity, so it's clear why most diabetics can't improve their health. The good news is that certain whole foods such as broccoli, red peppers, garlic, onion and extra virgin olive oil actually fight and prevent inflammation, oxidative stress, and toxicity!
(NaturalNews) Kirt Tyson, former type I diabetic was interviewed by Mike Adams. In the interview Kirt Tyson revealed that his diet was completely raw with no fruits. He ate only vegetables, seeds and nuts. He cured his diabetes on this simple 30 day raw diet. The once debilitating disease can now be treated with going on a raw diet and making some life changing decisions. Not only can you go raw, but you can also use these eight natural herbs and remedies to survive diabetes.
There are many remedies available today and some work better than others. Like the raw diet, it all depends on your body and your genetics. No cure works one hundred percent of the time for everyone. A raw diet is only the beginning. Continuing to eat healthy for the rest of your life ensures that you too can be free of this disease returning.
Besides going raw and eliminating sugar out of your life, you must switch to raw milk or its alternatives. In the book, The Devil in the Milk, Dr. Kevin Woodford explains how the type of milk we drink, directly reflects of the high incidence of many diseases, including diabetes and cancers. There are many substitutes available from almond milk to oat milk. They are extremely healthy and easy to make.
Eight Types of Natural Remedies Available Today:
1. Fig Leaves
Fig leaves are best known for treating diabetes, but there are many other uses for the fig leaves. There are many homemade remedies from treating diabetes to treating bronchitis, genital warts, liver cirrhosis, high blood pressure, skin problems and ulcers. Fig leaves are not used as much as they should be. Most of the remedies for the fig leaves use the sap or the milk of the sacred tree. Fig tinctures or poultices should be used immediately and fresh batches made daily.
The big news with the use of fig leaves is that they have anti-diabetic properties. The diabetic needs less insulin when on a treatment of using the fig leaf extract. The diabetic should take the extract with breakfast, first thing in the morning. An additional remedy is to boil the leaves of the fig in some freshly filtered waster and drink this as a tea. 2. Black Seed
Black seed, also known as Nigella Sativa is a cure for all diseases, except death and considered to be a miraculous cure. It has been used for everything from acne to pancreatic cancers and doctors are raving about the results. Read about this remedy that has been used for over 2000 years.http://www.naturalnews.com/026868_N...
For seven days take 6 teaspoons of the oil. Take the oil three different times of the day. Then take 2 teaspoons in the morning and 2 in the evening for 4 days. Follow by taking 2 teaspoons of the oil for two days. Take plenty of water in the morning and rub the oil all over the body for 10 days. You must mix the oil with fruit juice. Repeat this treatment if you do not see any improvement.
Another remedy for the treatment of diabetes is to take one half cup of the seeds that have been heated and a half cup of water cress seeds(mustard seeds can be substituted) and a 1/4 cup of ground pomegranate peel. Place these all in a blender and pulse well to a fine powder. Add in 1/8 cup of fumitory. Each day take one teaspoon of the ground powder and one teaspoon of the oil, one hour before you eat. Do this for at least one month.
3. Fenugreek
Take 5-30 grams with each meal or up to 90 grams once a day. Do not take more than 100 grams as it will cause an upset stomach and make a person nauseated. Fenugreek cannot be taken at the same time as other medicines. You must wait at least one hour and preferably two before taking fenugreek. Diarrhea and gas are common side effects of fenugreek.
Warnings about taking fenugreek: If you notice these side effects stop taking fenugreek right away: difficulty in breathing, tightness in chest, rash, swollen and itchy skin. Also if you are pregnant, consult your physician before taking fenugreek.
4. Cinnamon
Cinnamon has long been reported as a good source for the treatment of diabetes, due to a study done in 2003 by Khan and associates. 60 people were tested in the group and one third of the group was given a placebo. The end results were very impressive and the overall health of the group was increased with glucose down 18 percent; LDL cholesterol and triglycerides also showed reduced levels. Everyone was excited and the word of using cinnamon spread.
According to Cancer Tutor.com, "At least 1/2 teaspoon a day, which is critical to "soften" the cell membranes. Cinnamon mimics insulin, thus it may lower your need for insulin immediately."
5. Grape seed Extract
Grape seed extract has been proven to improve the conditions associated with this disease. Grape seed performed greatly in studies conducted in 2006 in Toyama Japan, in 2009 in Romania and also in Portsmouth UK. Grape seed was successful in protecting the liver cells and setting up defense mechanisms against reactive oxygen species produced by hyperglycemic conditions.
Grape seed comes in capsules of 50-100mg. It is usually suggested to take 50mg per 50 lbs of weight, not to exceed 300mg per day. Whole grape seeds are the best alternative, which need to be ground and placed in vegetarian capsules. Taking 3 capsules a day is enough. The time of day does not matter.
6. Olive Oil
The Department of Health Sciences of the University of Jaen is researching the correlation between preventing diabetes and the consumption of olive oil. Through research, they have found that an oil rich diet may prevent diabetes. By using olive oil, you can reduce your blood levels including LDL and triglycerides.
By olive oil reducing the cholesterol levels, you can prevent such diseases as cardiovascular, atherosclerosis and diabetes. Prevention of diabetes begins with weight management and proper diet. The Mediterranean diet has been shown beneficial in the treatment of diabetes by using olive oil, which is monounsaturated instead of saturated fats.
Before sleeping drink 1/4 cup of olive oil. If you prefer to use lecithin, mix one tablespoon of lecithin with one tablespoon of olive oil. Keep in mind that one cup of olive oil has 2000 calories. Just because it is healthy does not mean a person can ignore the calorie intake.
To learn how olive oil cures over 60 diseases, read this article:http://www.naturalnews.com/027094_o...
7. Bitter Melon
Researchers have proven that bitter melon works great with the treatment of diabetes. It contains insulin like properties which help in the lowering of the blood and urine levels. It is suggested to be used frequently.
The bitter melon should be juiced and then taken on an empty stomach before eating first thing in the morning. The seeds may be ground to a powder and eaten also. You can also, make a tea from the bitter melon.
8. Vitamin C and Diabetes
Researchers have found that using from 100-600mg of vitamin C daily can cause you to normalize your sugar levels, in as little as one month. Diabetics have a complication of too much sugar, sorbitol, in the body, which eventually leads to eye and nerve damage.
Home Made Remedies
It should be noted that there are no case studies about these home remedies, only people testifying to their personal success.
1. Avocado
Take one avocado seed and grill the seed. Slice the seed into several chunks. Add this to a pot of water and bring to boil, wait till the water turns brown. Strain the water mixture and drink when cool. Expect to see results within two weeks.
2.Apples
Take one apple and cut into chunks. Place the apple in a pan with 4 cups of water and bring to boil and cook until the water is reduced in half. Drink this morning and night. It is expected to show relief within two months.

However, there is a long way ahead to determine scientifically whether coffee(or caffeine) should be listed among natural cures for diabetes or not. Chromium and Diabetes
Chromium Picolate, the active form of Chromium in our body, plays a crucial role as a natural remedy for diabetes. Chromium affects the number of receptors for insulin, in this way it helps insulin to take its duty. In addition, it can reduce the cholesterol and preventing the onset of severe diabetes complications.

Other aspects cayenne(among other natural cures for diabetes) can help is by alleviating diabetes complications conditions.
Click here to learn scientific facts on benefits of cayenne to manage diabetes. Green tea and diabetes
The first way green tea affects your blood sugar is by enhancing the insulin action in your body. Actually, there is one study conducted in 2002 by BHNRC, in which brewed tea was added to the fat cells of rats. Click here for more. As a result the insulin activity was raised more than 15 times. This is due to a green tea component called catechin EGCG(epigallocatechin gallate) which enhances the insulin function in your body tissue.
The second way green tea & diabetes are related is by inhibiting the absorption of glucose in your intestines. This is good because it can prohibit the peak levels of blood sugar. As you may see, green tea has all the rights to be listed among natural cures for diabetes.
Fenugreek and diabetes
The part of fenugreek that is used for medical purposes is its seeds. Indians are used to dry its seeds and, then, prepare their dishes.
Some other times, they prepare tea. If you like its taste, even you can do so. Let’s see what’s inside fenugreek that can help beating diabetes naturally?
I want you to understand that its seeds contain an amino acid called 4-hydroxyisoleucine. This amino acid may stimulate the secretion of insulin by your pancreas.
Another duty is to reduce insulin resistance. As a result, you may have lower blood sugar levels. Another component fenugreek contains is alkaloids such as gentianine, trigonelline, and carpaine; all of them make sure fenugreek to be called among other natural cures for diabetes.
The above information was gleaned from sites on the internet about natural cures and control for diabetes. I have personally used some of these with excellent results.
Personally, I would try to move my dog into a raw diet. There are many websites that give instructions about this as well as many yahoo groups. But whatever you do, stay away from low level dog food that uses soy, corn, etc as fillers. You want a high quality protein based food such as Orijen or Nature's Recipe. Giving your munchkin real food like skinless chicken, turkey, etc with some steamed veggies(no onions, no grapes, no advocado) and fruit like berries will do a world of good in controling the diabetes. I think if you follow what I have sent to you that you will be able to get your girl back to normal. Remember that exercise is very important.
Best of luck,
Shelley Davis
