Did I use "wherein" properly in this sentence?

Postby donough » Fri Apr 01, 2011 1:39 pm

In addition, my paralegal career of more than ten years wherein I worked with procedures and guidelines related to patents and trademarks, employee benefits, and telecommunications makes me a perfect fit for the job.

I agree with the first two answers - it may be grammatically proper but comes across as just "not quite right". Also, this is a run-on sentence: best to find a way to split it into two or even three smaller sentences.

I agree with the answers that suggest "in which" and suggest cleaning up the sentence.

They don't say what's wrong with "wherein." It means "in which" but is archaic and sounds stilted. Since you work in the law you may see it in legal documents, but even lawyers probably haven't used it in ordinary conversation or writing since the 19th century. A job application, as this seems to be, shouldn't sound like a legal brief.

You need to reformat the paragraph. There are too much and's and commas.

"In addition, I worked with procedures and guidelines (related to patents, trademarks, employee benefits and telecommunications) for more than ten years on my paralegal career. With these experience, I am confident that I am suitable for the job.

Yes, "in which" is better. Also, here's better punctuation:

You could just use the word "where."

And I wouldn't say makes me a perfect fit for the job - they will be deciding that, and sayin it makes you look presumptuous.

I believe the better word to use in that sentence would be "in which".
