An alleged illegal immigrant from El Salvador is charged with the attempted rape of a woman Saturday in Hamilton Township.
Genaro Renderos-Abrego, 31, no known address, remains in Franklin County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is charged with attempted rape, making terroristic threats, providing false identification to police and criminal mischief.
Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, said troopers were called about 3 a.m. to investigate a location on Heintzelman Avenue. According to charging documents, they spoke to a 21-year-old alleged victim.
She told police that Renderos-Abrego came to her home about 11 p.m. Friday and asked to stay there, because he was no longer able to live in his Hagerstown, Md. apartment. He allegedly made several sexual advances after she let him inside, and she told him "that he could stay, but she did not want him to touch her."
The woman said she was feeding her infant child about 2 a.m. and fell asleep in bed, according to court documents. She woke up about 30 minutes later to find her pants removed and Renderos-Abrego on top of her.
She was able to prevent him from completing the act, but he allegedly held her down briefly. Police said they collected physical evidence he allegedly left behind.
After Renderos-Abrego stood, the alleged victim said, she got up and put her child in a crib, then told him "to leave and never come back before she called police." He allegedly became angry, threw her laptop computer on the floor and stomped on it.
When she attempted to call police, he allegedly threatened to break her phone, shoved her into the baby's crib and ran out of the home.
The woman also told police that she was recently the victim in a Maryland assault case involving Renderos-Abrego. She had the charges against him dropped, because he told her "he would only return to murder her and anyone that she was with" if she had him deported.
Police located Renderos-Abrego in a green Dodge Neon on U.S. 11. He allegedly provided officers with a false name, "Rodolfo Rodriguez." He was subsequently identified and arrested.
During an interview, he allegedly told investigators that he had been at the victim's home and confirmed part of her complaint. However, he said that "she was awake during this encounter and did not tell him to stop."
An agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was contacted to check Renderos-Abrego's status, and confirmed he is in the country illegally.
He was arraigned on the charges Saturday and placed in jail.
