Does a speeding ticket in North Carolina affect a South Carolina license?

Postby zackary42 » Wed Oct 26, 2011 3:07 pm

I got a BS ticket coming from a job in NC. Regardless of the BS, I got the ticket. I live in South Carolina and rarely work in NC. I know a few years ago tickets in other states didn't affect driver's license in their home state. I think it may have changed now, but would like to make sure. The idiot cop pulled me about 5 miles after he passed me. We were going in opposite directions. Any info would be helpful.

If the North Carolina ticket is severe enough to add points to your license or to suspend your license, North Carolina will notify South Carolina of the points and / or suspension. South Carolina has a compact with North Carolina and will honor the points and / or suspension.

South Carolina's points system is here: http://www.dmv.org/sc-south-carolina/point-system.php

Vermont and North Carolina does not report tickets to your home state unless violation results in license suspension. North Carolina will not assess points for out-of-state tickets unless the violation, if committed in North Carolina would result in a suspension.

So I guess I am in the clear because the violation will not cause my license to be suspended. Complete details as follows, assuming this site is up to date. It states on the bottom that the article is copyrighted 2011 so maybe it is.

Here is the complete list of exceptions:
