Don't Own A Beach House And Pay For Hurricane Insurance? If Congress Has Its Way, You'll Help Pay Hurricane Insurance!

I wish I owned a beach house, but I can't afford one. But Congress is poised to have me pay to help out the owners of beach property..........and the insurers of beach property. You will share in the costs of beach houses, just as I will, when Congress passes the bill and the President signs it into law. http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/stories/2009/06/02/goodmaned_0602.htmlI know homeowners insurance and auto insurance is a share-the-risk proposal. But have a couple of kitchen fires or car crashes due to careless driving, and you'll pay a higher cost. Now I think owners of beach property join a pool for hurricane insurance, and I think if there is more damage from hurricanes, their rates should go up. But I don't think I should subsidize their choices. How about you? Will you be happy to pay for part of a wealthy beach house owner's insurance - without even getting a three-day weekend at the beach house for helping out with the insurance costs?

Definitely not, paying the insurance is the owner's responsibilities but if they cannot pay it the they should opt to sell the property or be risky at all. I can invest my money on other things, I think Congress thought that it might help the country to lessen the downfall of the insurance business. This bill is so risky because it is not your property, it is from someone you didn't know yet.

Help to pay hurricane insurance It's wind vs. water in many a hurricane insurance claim, so be sure you know the difference - and obtain both hurricane and flood insurance when protecting your home.During hurricanes Katrina and Rita, many residents thought they bought hurricane insurance as part of their homeowners policy, which excludes damage from floods. While a typical homeowner?s policy covers wind damage, it only covers water damage that is a direct result of rain entering through a wind-damaged area.Depending on the policy, it will also cover resulting fire or vandalism, debris removal and repairs, and cash or replacement value of damaged property. Additional living expenses(ALE) may also be provided should it become necessary for you to stay at a hotel if your home becomes unliveable.Insurance adjusters are specially trained to tell the difference between flood and hurricane damage. However, since qualifications vary among insurance professionals, you might find yourself protesting the claim if you think it has been wrongfully determined by an inexperienced adjuster. You can also file a complaint with your state insurance department or as a last resort hire an attorney to continue the fight. On the Web, find out more about protecting your home from hurricane damage, how to navigate the minefield of hurricane and flood damage coverage, when and how to file a claim, along with expert tips and advice, and related links and resources to information on insuring against hurricanes .... Don't Own A Beach House And Pay For Hurricane Insurance? If Congress Has Its Way, You'll Help Pay Hurricane Insurance!

Is it all that simple. My mother lives in NYC near the bay. She doesn't own a beach house, she just lives within a few miles of the bay, a widow living in a humble blue collar working man's home. No garage, tiny dot of land. She was told by the insurance company that she had to have a 40 year old Colorado Blue Spruce, the only tree on the property and sturdy as a rock, cut down because of the higher risk of hurricanes due to global climate changes.I don't know what she pays in hurricane insurance but I'm thinking that we're all picturing gorgeous estates in the Hamptons, insurance subsidized by Americans everywhrere. Is it just beach houses or is it businesses that create jobs that happen to be located on coastal areas and houses like my mother's. I'm serious. I would like to know the specifics before jumping to conclusions. If it is really just beach houses in San Clemente, then no.

Psst. We have been rebuilding - with taxpayers money-the beach and waterfront houses of congressmen and senators for years. Trent Lott comes to mind. You just weren't told about it. Seems silly to act like this is a new issue.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/20/AR2005092001414.htmlBTW- I'm against rebuilding any upper class families beachhouses. Especially since the Katrina victims are STILL waiting for their only home to be rebuilt. Another mess left behind for someone else to clean up.But Brownie did a heck of a good job.
