Failed Bovie Pad?

Postby hiatt » Sat Jun 21, 2014 1:32 am

I had my left leg amputated as well as two other surgeries on 9/15/10. Bovie pads were placed underneath me in several places and the surgery lasted appx. 14 hours. Afterward I had 12.5 cm x 8 cm burns on my left and right buttocks that took over 7 months to heal. I still have scars from it now and am probably scared for life. My surgeon tells me it's an electrical burn(I have a great relationship with my surgeon) but the hospital insists it's a "pressure sore". The burn/sore was discovered immediately following my surgery.

Who's right?

Failed Bovie Pad?

"Who's right" as to whether the burns and scars were from an electrical source or they were from a pressure sore?  Why do you think a lawyer would know the answer; especially a lawyer who had not seen the medical records, not seen a photo of the injury, not seen a report from an independent medical exam, and never went to medical school anyhow?  Only a doctor who has examined you could answer the question.  The question you wanted to ask me is this: "Do I have a medical malpractice case against either the doctors or the hospital if the scars on my butt were caused by either an electrical burn and/or pressure sores due to failure to move me around during the amputation surgery"? Is that your question? That I can answer, sort of, and not fully because I don't know what those scars look like, how bad they are, how big they are, or whether this is more than just a cosmetic problem.  Steve: if this is only a cosmetic problem for you, there is no case even if the most stupid medical negligence caused it.  How are you damaged to a substantial degree that would justify a big lawsuit over scars on your butt? I understand you don't like them but hell, these doctors probably saved your life, didn't they? You don't say why you had the amputation but it must have been something very very serious. If everything went as well as could be hoped for except for some scarring on  your rear end that no one but yourself would ever see, obviously this is not the stuff of a lawsuit. Filing and pursuing a med mal case costs your lawyer many thousands of dollars, hiring witnesses etc, and hundreds of hours of time and he only gets paid if he wins and wins big. The defendant doctors would fight the case with the best lawyers money can buy, they would defend by saying they are sorry that you have this scarring but they did everything within the standard of care......and if they had moved you or done something to prevent the burns right at a critical time in the surgery, the surgery could have gone badly........so in the scheme of things and in your best interests, they put your life and well being from the surgery ahead of the possibility of some burns. Isn't that what a surgeon should do? Get the point? These doctors saved your friggin life and you have some scars on your butt.......you don't say they cause medical problems for you.......how friggin ungrateful you are................So what are those scars on your gorgeous ass worth anyhow? Millions? Sorry. More I thought about this the more I can't understand why you would ask such a question.   Here's the answer you were looking for:  Whether from an electrical burn or pressure sores, the scarring is evidence of medical malpractice and you should sue both hospital and all doctors involved. The case is worth approximately $350,000. Go find a local lawyer to take the case and you will be on easy street.  Like that one better? To you believe my second answer? Does it make sense? You realize it is BS don't you. So why ask the question to begin with?
