what can US Home Land Security do about it, if enforcing our current laws in not working?
======================================…
They have not enforced the Immigration Law for a very long time. That meant that they did not fund the Border Patrol, nor man the Border Patrol. Over a million illegal aliens crossed the border south of Tucson last year, and the manpower and money enabled them to catch 240,000 of them. They have sensors on the border and those sensors detect when the illegal aliens come by. The 'over 1,000,000 is either good, or low. Soooo... maybe Obama didn't know that police functions require money to operate, or he thought magic would achieve the goal. Either way, the lack of funding, and lack of Border Patrol put this country in serious jeopardy.
At some point, what can come over the border could be far, far more than simply the Mexican Mafia Mules with narcotics. MUCH more than merely illegal aliens. Get the drift. And when you look around, there are a dozen dozen models of successful border operations, any one of which we could copy if Obama didn't like what we have. But what we have, fully funded and manned, would be an excellent way to stop the ugly stuff at the border, or well before.
Finally... it costs money to do that. Stopping the narcotics at the door pays back a huge amount of the money. Stopping the illegal aliens at the door will also pay a lot of that back. Stopping the entry of a dirty bomb, or a biological bomb, will be very, very profitable to the American People.
Should we do it? Yes. But what we have to do is actually go after the people who send the meth over. We need survailance of the border constantly. We need eyes in Mexico and we need live running digital examination of most of the roads coming north. If we are in a terrorists war... and are we?... why aren't we covering our backside?
Spend the money.. man the BP, and fund the BP, and our current laws will work just fine.
