How do I search for pending patents?

Postby colum » Mon Apr 04, 2011 10:53 pm

I went to uspto.gov to search for pending patents but the only results coming up are patents that have already been granted. How do I search and see pending patents?

Pending patents are not called pending patents, they are called patent APPLICATIONS. You can search applications here:http://patft.uspto.gov/ click the appropriate link on the right column.(i.e. the one that says Applications near the top).

Every pending patent has an application number. It is unique. You could search at http://www.patsnap.com/patents/index , select USA database, choosing "Application Number" then enter the relevant value in the input box, then click "Run Search", you will get the result, then repeat above operations but select USB database, if you get a result, then this is not a pending patent, it is issued; if there is no result returned, this is a pending patent or a rejected patent. Have a try!
