How many people were killed by mafia violence during prohibition?

Postby nicolas » Tue Apr 24, 2012 8:02 am

I'm doing a paper comparing the violence of today's drug war with that of the Prohibition era mafia. However, I've had difficulty nailing down any estimate whatsoever of deaths due to violence caused by law enforcement, and mafia wars. I need an estimate with a scholarly, reliable source.

How many people were killed by mafia violence during prohibition?

Impossible to answer. We have to dredge Lake Michigan for it. Quite a few people got concrete shoes and swimming lessons.

In other words: they disappeared of the earth. Others may have been killed, but not recognized as organized crime victims. For example, being run over in a car accident.
