Sure, I'll bite I don't know a lot about music, other than what I like. I do consider Queen to be one of the greatest rock bands of all time. I once made a very attractive guy stop kissing me in a bar so I could sing along with Fat Bottomed Girls(Get on your bikes and ride!). So here, in no particular order, are some other bands I consider. I think they make the list not only because they have great music, but because of their influence on other bands and musicians. Maybe I'll make this my top five other than Queen list: The Beatles. I listened to 4 albums in high school. Maybe it was because they were the ones in best condition, but the White Album was my favorite(next to American Pie, the sound track to The Big Chill, and The Wall). Yeah, they had some crappy songs. That's bound to happen when you're so prolific. They also had some of the best, top selling, most influential(Sgt. Peppers is often tied with the Beach Boys album that came out at the same time for that title) albums of all time. Bob Dylan. Maybe more prolific than The Beatles, and certainly with a wider range of hit songs, once you start counting songs he wrote and other people sang. No one comes close to his style of writing, but his songs incapsulated one generation and influenced the next like no other. I saw him in concert a couple years ago, and I'm so glad I got the chance. It's not often you get to see a legend. Jerry Lee Lewis. Yeah, speaking of feeling lucky to see a legend, I saw him play Farm Aid last year. He beats Elvis by just a pinch to this list because he was one of the first Rock Stars. Screaming fans, mad critics and mothers, drugs, and controversy Rock Stars. And an amazing musician to boot. Jimi Hendrix. Possibly the greatest one hit wonder ever(Yep, only one top charting hit. Thank you, VH1 for that tid bit). He influenced decades of guitar heros to come. No one had done anything like what he was doing at his time. He was stunning, different, and the best thing to happen to the lead guitar in the history of Rock. Janis Joplin. She edges out the Greatful Dead, but only because she rocked a whole lot harder than they did. People who love rock love the Dead, but I think a lot of women wouldn't be in rock if it wasn't for Janis. It's a shame she burned out so fast; I know you can only shine so bright for so long, but Rock 'n' Roll lost a lot when it lost her. There are other influential musicians that I love- B.B. King in the past and Ani DiFranco and Dave Matthews for now(walk into any open mic where people under the age of 30 are playing- I'd bet money they sounded like one of the two of them.). But as far as real, pure Rock 'n' Roll goes, that's my list Sources: personal oppinion Manda's Recommendations Classic Queen Amazon List Price: $24.95 Used from: $13.77 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5(based on 2 reviews) Chronicles: Volume One(Chronicles) Amazon List Price: $14.00 Used from: $5.00 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5(based on 256 reviews) The Definitive Bob Dylan Songbook(Bob Dylan)(Bob Dylan) Amazon List Price: $39.95 Used from: $25.08 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5(based on 10 reviews) Hellfire: The Jerry Lee Lewis Story Amazon List Price: $13.00 Used from: $6.98 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5(based on 18 reviews) Love, Janis Amazon List Price: $13.95 Used from: $3.00 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5(based on 24 reviews) Scars of Sweet Paradise: The Life and Times of Janis Joplin Amazon List Price: $17.00 Used from: $6.47 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5(based on 29 reviews) Can't Buy Me Love: The Beatles, Britain, and America Amazon List Price: $27.50 Used from: $17.20 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5(based on 10 reviews) A Hard Day's Write, 3e: The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song Amazon List Price: $25.00 Used from: $13.90 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5(based on 8 reviews) Jimi Hendrix: An Illustrated Experience Amazon List Price: $45.00 Used from: $23.88 Average Customer Rating: 3.5 out of 5(based on 2 reviews) Manda 73 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment.
