Is there anything like a referendum process for federal laws?

We could probably end the war on drugs if there was a way to allow citizens to vote on national issues.

You can petition your congressman, but the voters can not directly change any laws.

1) We live in a REPUBLIC and not a democracy and there is a reason for that: so simple mob rule (which is what a democracy is) doesn't take hold. Look at California and how screwed up it is because of the referendum system: people vote "spur of the moment" and don't think about the consequences of their actions until it is too late and a counter-referendum is needed to reverse the actions of "the people"

2) It is "pothead" that causes marijuana to continue to be outlawed. If you all would stop getting stoned and make it just for medicinal use, there wouldn't be a problem... but NOOOOooo, you wanna get high to escape your pathetic lives.

3) A majority of voters would still vote against legalization. In the polls that are brought up showing how a "majority of people" want it legalized... you are polling "people" and not "voters". Most voters do not want it legalized.
