Is this typical procedure for apartment application processing?

Postby burdett » Fri Jul 06, 2012 2:48 am

I'm getting nervous. I gave this apartment manager a $100 apartment holding money order while they processed my application for an aparttment in their complex. I gave one of the 2 managers (the part time manager) the applications for my husband and I on Saturday. Yesterday, Monday, the part time manager called me 5 times while I was at work to so I could ask my HR department if they could answer their phone to verify my employment and then 2 more times to ask me to verify the spelling of my husband's name. We squared away and autheticated my employment and my husband's name yesterday.

Then today the same manager called 4 times trying to verify my residency. I'm currently living at home with my parents and we're sub leasing a room from my dad. The manager called my dad to verify my current address which my dad verifed then the manager called me 30 minutes later stating she needed the landlord's name and phone number to verify that my dad is paying rent on time. She said they can't verify residence through family members.

I'm wondering if that's typical because it sent up a red flag with my dad since he's not co-signing or anything as I have a full time job and so does my husband. My dad said he didn't feel comfortable releasing his landlord's info to the apartment manager who I then told to call our old apartment complex where my husband and I lived at for a year to verify at least one residence.

My husband and I don't have any evictions which I'm sure shows up on the credit bureau reports so I'm not exactly sure what's going on. The apartment manager said it's going to be a problem getting the applications processed without my dad's landland's info. Is that true?

It's now Tuesday and the applications have not been processed. I didn't have this issue renting our other apartment at all and I wasn't working at that time. Should I ask for my money back? This apartment manager is giving me the creeps.

They should call the apartment complex where you and your husband last lived because your dad proving he pays on time has nothing to do with how responsible you are. I would tell the apartment manager just that too. If she refuses, politely ask for your money back and go some where else.

(I use to be an apartment manager)
