Iud Copper

Postby Raynor » Mon Jun 23, 2014 12:58 pm

Hello, Ms Glen Dorfman i had a iud copper inserted in my uterus May 2009, at Grady Hospital in Atlanta Ga. My doctor suggested i get the IUD, i asked my doctor several questions about the IUD, side effects, health risk he told me that everything would be fine so i took his word for it and a month later i had him insert the IUD copper inside of me. Almost two months later i start having extremely heavy bleeding during my cycle. The doctor told me it was normal so i didn't worry about it. A couple weeks later i start experiencing severe pain in my pelvic area i ignored the pain, the next morning i woke up i went to the restroom, the bleeding was put of control dad rushed me to the hospital, i was taken to the emergency room and the doctors had to immediately give me a iv in my arm and give me several medications to stop the bleeding i could have enraged from bleeding so much, After the Cat SCAN came back i was told i had pelvic inflammatory disease, my entire pelvic area was inflamed that why i was bleeding so much, the IUD almost ruptured my uterus i was shocked i was told the medicines would clear it up, about two weeks later after i rested up i went back to my doctor and he removed the IUD due to complications. I also informed my doctor i was hospitalized because of the IUD, he didn't seem to care. I really need help finding a lawyer, it just is not right, i really could have lost my life because of a risk i took trusting my doctor's word.

Iud Copper

I already know your story very well. Back in the 1980s I handled hundreds of Dalkon Shield IUD cases involving mostly PID(pelvic inflammatory disease)like you had, varying in severity from very minor to very severe requiring hysterectomy, scarring of tubes and infertility, or even worse. The Dalkon Shield had a clear defect. The string acted like a candle wick and wicked bacteria up into the uterus. There were also many cases of uterine perforation, unintended pregnancies, etc.  Problem with making a legal case about your experience is that to my knowledge there are no cases going on, class action or otherwise, that identify a defect with whatever IUD you had.  Suggest to find out the brand of IUD and search the internet for such cases but I doubt if you will find one. One case would never survive. There must be hundreds or thousands in order to pay for all the scientific/research necessary.  So doubtful you have a case that would get anywhere against the manufacturer.  What about suing the doctor?  You could allege malpractice on the basis that he did not use a sufficiently sterile technique and allowed outside bacteria to pass into the uterus but problem is, anytime the cervix is dilated, that can happen even when everything is done according to the book. Your experience is not rare at all with any IUD insertion and is a risk that can't be avoided. Doctor should not have told you everything would be fine I guess although probably 95% are.........so you see the problem. Hopefully you suffered no long term problems.
