Liberals: Gun control is tougher, so why are there more gun crimes?

Postby golding » Wed Jul 25, 2012 3:01 am

I live in NJ and this is a blue state which has extremely tough gun laws, even self-defense here can be questioned, no matter the circumstances, even if it's in your private residence and your life is in danger.

Yet, in my city (next to Newark) and including Newark illegal weapons crimes are high in the ghettos.

In this state, at least, most crimes come from ghettos or low-income neighborhoods using illegal weapons.

Law-abiding, middle class citizens such as myself are denied our 2nd Amendment rights due to the actions of the poor people and gangs in the ghettos.

Don't you think, that if a law-abiding, middle class citizen would have had a gun in the movies, the whole tragedy could have been avoided?

Look at the example I will provide, watch the link.

Oakland CA has some of the toughest gun control in the US.

and they also have shots fired several times a day. in fact residents don't even turn their heads when they hear shots.

No matter how tough and even if you were not allowed to own a gun in the USA, Criminals will always have guns and don't care about gun laws or any other laws( that's what makes them criminals). We need not tougher gun laws we need tougher laws for crimes and tougher sentencing. We also need more lacks gun laws so a law abiding citizen can carry and use a gun against an assailant with no recourse.

it's not really gun control when you can drive 10 minutes outside of the city limits and buy an assault rifle...

the simple fact is...gun bans were put in place because gun violence was a problem... the gun bans didn't fix it because it only made it ever so slightly more difficult to get guns... driving 10 minutes instead of 5...

in nations with gun control laws and no neighbors that have no laws (just can't drive 5 minutes over the mexican border to the US to buy an AR-15)... gun regulations do seem to work and gun violence is down...

This is NOT a gun issue. Fewer or more guns won't help anything. It is wrong to pass knee-jerk laws restricting gun ownership and it is just as wrong to use this event to promote more guns come into circulation. Everybody knock it off. People died because a guy went nuts -- and this is coming from a bleeding heart liberal who doesn't allow people to being guns into her own home. Take guns out of the equation and then try to make sense out of it and try to figure out how to prevent it in the future.

Gun control is not tougher in any meaningful way. There are more guns in Americans' hands now than there ever has been before. That is partially why there is more gun violence. And no, arming more people does not make us safer.

Solving the gun problem with more guns is like solving the terrorism problem with more... well sh*t, we do that too. Fine, more guns.

Actually according to 2010 FBI statistics single-victim gun killings have dropped more than 40 percent since 1980. And mass killings are only slightly higher. One-on-one violence also usually involves a small-caliber handgun while mass killers often opt for an automatic or semi-automatic weapons to kill as many as possible. But by far the mass killings get far more media coverage and exposure.
And since Obama has taken office there have been no new gun control measure put into place. In fact several older regulations were dropped (i.e. taking guns into national parks).
