Mexican Immigration/visa Rules

Postby hew35 » Thu Jun 19, 2014 3:45 pm

I am a U.S. citizen married in the U.S. to a Mexican National. He will be returning to Mexico in a few months. I work in California near the border. He will stay in Tijuana. I will commute back and forth across the border to work, and stay with him in TJ. Do you recommend an FM-2 or FM-3 visa for me, how do I start the process?

Mexican Immigration/visa Rules

Dear Andrea,

You can initiate the paperwork for the FM2 or FM3 in a Consulate or in an office of the Instituto Nacional de Migracion. In my experience, service is pretty good no matter where you go. I am not an expert in Mexican immigration law, but so I am not exactly sure which visa you should apply for. But I think that because you will be living in Mexico on money that comes from outside mexico that you will want to go for the FM3. In either case, after having either the FM2 or FM3 for two years, you can apply for Mexican citizenship.

Hope this helps!

John
