Hello,
At one time it is my understanding that I was number 1 on Progressive's "Do not use list."
I guess it is because their experts can't prove their conclusions.
You need to realize this is a game. It doesn't matter if you had nothing to do with the theft. It just means that they will find an expert not associated by pay records that will find in favor for them. At this point they put together a case against you. Their job is to make it appear as though your car is "unstealable" and that you had some sort of financial hardship.
You have to give them everything they request or they deny you on non-cooperation. If arrested, you get your Miranda rights where every thing you say may be used against you. This holds true in this instance too! Don't talk to them unless you have to. This is not legal advice, but comes from the extensive experience I have working against these insurance companies as an expert witness.
Every time you speak to them they are listing every word and sometimes what they think your mood is. The notes from Progressive are known as Pacman notes. Oh oh, maybe that is one of their trade secrets I am not supposed to put public.
I am different than 99% in my field for many reasons and have an awesome success rate working with the client attorney.
If you want to blame anyone for your plight, I would say GM for falsely calling your system anti-theft!
You are dealing with ex-cops that are investigating you. Some are good at intimidation.
I recently had a case against Progressive. The claims person put the oil analysis in her own words. The oil analysis stated trace amounts of what could have been anti freeze. The oil tech contacted the insurance company and said the owner may not have even known because he bought the vehicle used. In spite of that, the investigator inferred mechanical failure due for imminent failure!
Also transponder and burned. I wrote a 14 page report refuting all their so-called facts and the case settled for a lot of money all based on my report.
Your car is burned. I don't know how bad, but 99% of the time in these situations, proper testing is not done by the so-called experts. Either that or they destroy the evidence.
You can't do anything until your claim is denied. I work across the US and Canada.
My website http://www.autotheftexpert.com will be very educational to you as it relates to this.
Feel free to call me. My contact info is on the site.
By the way, you asked if there was some modern way to determine if your car was stolen. Yes--it's called a crystal ball!!!
