McConnell Can’t Answer How GOP Will Insure Americans After Repealing ObamaCare

Source: ThinkProgress

Since the Supreme Court last week upheld the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have been scrambling for a response. Without much to say now that the law has been ruled constitutional, the GOP has fallen back on its pledge to repeal ObamaCare. However, the new health care law provides 30 million Americans with access to health insurance. So how do Republicans plan to replace this key feature if they repeal?

Fox News’s Chris Wallace asked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) this important question on Fox News Sunday today and the senior senator from Kentucky had no answer. After McConnell meandered through the typical GOP talking points that they plan to allow the sale of health insurance across state lines and that they will institute medical malpractice reform, he finally settled on an answer: Insuring Americans “is not the issue”:

WALLACE: One of the keys to ObamaCare is that it will extend insurance access to 30 million people who are now uninsured. In your replacement, how would you provide universal coverage?

MCCONNELL: Well first let me say the first single thing we can do for the American system is get rid of ObamaCare. … The single biggest direction we can take in terms of improving health care is to get rid of this monstrosity.

WALLACE: But you’re talking about repealing and replace, how would you provide universal coverage?

MCCONNELL: I’ll get to it in a minute.

WALLACE: I just want to ask, what specifically are you going to do to provide universal coverage to the 30 million people who are uninsured?

MCCONNELL: That is not the issue. The question is, how can you go step by step to improve the American health care system. … We’re not going to turn the American health care system into a Western European system.

Drum roll, please!
Absolutely.....................nothing… Obama was spot on about the GOP; they have nothing new to offer us. Just more of the status quo and blame games against him and other Democrats. All they care about is getting in power so they can do more tax cuts for the rich (aka. trickle-down economics) while tricking their voters into thinking it works.

You forget that the Republican Congress had (and still has) a number of recommendations when Obamacare was being developed and the Democrats SHUT THEM OUT.

But you want a few suggestions, here's 3 biggies that are not in Obamacare:

1. Tort Reform
2. Pharmaceutical industry reform
3. Ability to carry coverage between jobs and across state lines

It isn't up to McConnel and, I believe Romney has a plan.

I like his fairness approach which is preferential to the "ram it down your throat and choke" approach of Obama.

Nice well thought out query. I weep for humanity when I witness the sniveling drivel that falls out of conservative mouths.

The Ryan plan is a start without raping the country and adding 1.5 trillion inn new taxes and 600 billion a year in debt.

How about promoting HSA's, reducing the federal government involvement in health care, reeling in frivolous lawsuits, allowing plans to be bought across state lines, cutting the red tape regulation on the industry, making the government pay full reimbursement to providers, reducing the outrageous need for expensive malpractice insurance, reducing the amount of health care resources the government consumes, and so on.

Obamacare is designed to destroy the private market and push everyone into government health care. Obama himself was caught on tape saying it will take 10 years to get to a single payer system through piece meal steps, and that single payer is the ultimate goal.

Even the CBO states that Obamacare will result in up to 20 million people losing their employer provided insurance over the next few years due to employers dropping plans because the fine will be cheaper than the actual plans. Thus, those people will most likely turn to government provided insurance as the private market costs get pushed upward.

I dont want the govt to replace it with anything.

There are 2 national physicians groups that have come up with market based solutions to fix healthcare in the US. That is where the solution lies. Not with an incompetent govt that cannot manage money

If you are truly intereseted in learning about alternatives that would really work go to the SEPP website and read their proposals
