Southern California Speeding Ticket?

Postby ludano17 » Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:20 pm

Hello everyone I got a speeding ticket on 1-7-12 12:15pm. The officer came up to my car acting like a disrespectful mother... I mean cop I was polite didn't say very much gave him my information. He gave me a ticket says my approx speed was 71mph I had just got off a high speed area where 71mph isn't really speeding but was stopped in a 40mph. My ticket amount is 1,369.00 which sounds ridiculous considering my first ticket ever. He did mention something about my insurance not being good but I told him it was he said to bring proof to court *is that why the amount is so high?* *if I show proof will it be lowered?* Also under the code and section part he puts I was going 40 mph over which doesn't add up and it says Insurance Not thinking thats him saying I don't have insurance? and I see a in possession on it I don't know if that was an accident or not but he didn't even check or search me nor did I have anything in my car. I have court in 2 days haven't done anything yet I have been thinking of fighting it because I honestly don't think he'd show and if he did I don't think he'd have anything. Anyone know what I can do to fight or lower the amount? Thank you (:

You need to read the ticket carefully to see if it's for insurance problems or just for speed. However, if you were going 71 in a 40 zone, that is very serious and the fine seems reasonable. You can go to court and see what happens, but remember that if you go to court you give up your right to get the ticket off your record with traffic school.

Your entire account of the encounter makes it look like you are the one with the attitude. The statement that you left a stretch where 71 MPH really wasn't speeding means nothing. You were in a 40 MPH zone. How long do you think he has to give you to reduce your speed? The law says when you pass the speed limit sign. I will tell you, we get really sick of scraping people up off the pavement because someone thinks he can run as fast as he wants, and then acts like he is put upon when we pull him over. We had a judge in Indianapolis when I was a kid who was famous for his sentences. He would have sentenced you to a week in the morgue, writing reports on autopsies of car crash victims.

In California, not only will you be paying $1.369.00 you will also have to surrender your drivers license for at least 20 days, along with the fine. Plead not guilty and a court date will be set up and you will have your chance to appear in front of the traffic officier and the judge. You! have the option to go to traffic school and may save some money ! Just hope and pray that the officier that gave you the ticket, doesn't show up to present his case...... Note:Slim chance.
