There are a number of other provisions as well. The National Association of Broadcasters, the industry's self-regulatory body, has set the amount of commercial time at 20 minutes per hour for hour long programs, and 10 minutes per half hour program. However, this does not have the same effect as law and pertains to local stations and not networks. There has never been a regulation from the Federal Communications Commission regarding the amount of commercial time that may be in a network program. However, most networks go along with the NAB guidelines when it comes to commercial time.Have you ever noticed - and this is truly annoying - how every over-the-air network runs their commercials at approximately the same time during an hour or half-hour? Also, do you remember the Family Hour which was to be the first hour of programming in the evening and was supposed to be devoted to "clean, wholesome, family entertainment"(programs with no violence, no sex, etc.)? Whatever happened to that? Now that's one they've really conveniently overlooked and forgotten!! 72 months ago
