The baby of my friend died in the hospital because of neglect of the nurses..

I cried the night I heard the news that the 9-month old baby daughter of my friend died in the hospital because of the neglect of the nurses on duty..My friend and his wife really were at a loss and at the same time really mad.They rushed their baby to the hospital 3 days before because the baby has a high fever.My friend was not financially well-off so they were able to send the baby to a public hospital because it is much cheaper. On the 2nd day, the baby was doing ok and has recovered her strength already and able to play with her dad.HOwever, the doctors decided to let the baby stay for one more day to observe her condition. On the 3rd day, the mom was with the baby when she noticed that the baby was having a hard time breathing so she called the nurse on duty to help her and find out what's wrong. The nurses on duty did not care and just glanced at the baby saying "it's alright,there's nothing wrong." The mom was already frantic and carried the baby and running down the hospital hall looking for a doctor or nurse but none of the nurses even bothered to help her or the baby. After a few minutes, the baby died already.. My friend was really mad and depressed at the same time. He keeps on blaming himself that he was not rich so he wasnt able to have his daughter be treated in a private hospital wherein she could have gotten better treatment and then she wouldnt have to die.. At the same time, they were really mad at the hospital because many nurses witnessed the incident but no one bothered to respond or help the baby. They are thinking of suing the hospital for neglect, not because they want some money to be compensated to them, but mainly because they want some justice for their baby girl..Do you think they should file this case or are they just prolonging their agony if they sue? Because justice system in our country is really not that good especially since they are not really rich.The case may take time, months or even years without a result.

What a heartbreaking story. I am very sorry to hear about this. Neglect is a terrible thing. They might even be able to bring charges for criminal neglect. If they decide to sue, no one could blame the for doing it. My best suggestion would be for them to think about things for a while and not make a decision while they are so upset. They must be just devastated. It's usually not good to make important decisions when upset. At the same time, they shouldn't wait too long either as their are deadlines for filing lawsuits. They might want to find an attorney that offers free consultations and discuss the situation. Thoughts and prayers for this hurting family in their time of need. So sad.

Personally I think they have a lawsuit on their hands! That is so sad, Private hospital or not, that is neglect and if they are nurses they should of taken care of this baby right! It saddens me to think of all the hospital neglect, it doesn't matter if your friend had money or not she went to a hospital to get her infant treated and they should have done their job! That is a human life! I would jump on this immediately and demand action be taken on this hospital, did they say what exactly the baby died of? was it an infection? could it have easily been cured? If it was me I would be seeing a lawyer right away, tell her to find one that gives free consultations and seek some legal advice good luck to your friend and her family, as a mom I cant even imagine going through this! hope things get better :)

thanks a lot babygurl! the hospital told them that the baby died because of (im sorry but i dont know the term,it's a medical one) but they are not believing it because they sent the baby to the hospital only because of fever and the baby was already doing ok on the 2nd day before it all happened. they are really on-the-down and i feel sorry that i couldnt do anything to help ease the pain that i know they are feeling..

if that's the case, medical term it is or not still they neglect helping this poor people..you know i hate this sitaution where in they look down on people who has not much..with or without thats their profession to take role to.i hate this kind of people, you know i experinced this myself but im lucky i am in the private.i have rushed my daughter to hospital because of her cough wont go even if i had her medicated.when i went there she was admitted that same day and that same hours she had gone into worse.my daughter catches her breath into death and the nurses did nothing.all they can say was we have to do this and that in order for her to survive and that i must pay this amount! for God sake that was my baby dying but they have to make me pay the amount before they will perform any actions..i muttered, i was angry and all of a sudden i burst things out..i said to this nurses! is that what you pledge for?! to make people pay the amount first before saving my daughters life?!..sad to say thats all i could say at the moment..i signed for promisorry note that i will pay them them but still not taking any actions until my baby run out of breath thats the time they took action for her but it was too late..she was gone..if they didnt just neglect her maybe until now i still have her with me..

im sorry to hear about your daughter,angel. it is also the same here in our hospitals..even if the patient is dying already or suffering very severe pain, they wont admit the patient unless you pay something first. and sometimes, people die because they are not able to pay the "entrance fee" and get immediate attention. it's really sick and im not sure if the nurses and doctors are to blame or the hospital itself for imposing such policies..

My condolences to your friend's loss. I can sympathize. My daughter died 15 years ago. My baby was born with a congenital heart defect. When she was just five weeks of age, open heart surgery was performed on her. My daughter underwent heart surgery and she died on the operating table, as the result of negligent conduct by a physician. We did not sue the doctor for malpractice. All the money in the world won’t bring my baby back. This is a decision that only your friends can make. Please tell your friends that my daughter was at one of the best hospitals and I still lost her, so please tell them not to blame themselves.

im sorry to hear about your baby, swtrose..and thank you for your kind words..i am also thinking that if they really file a case, it might just prolong their agony because the wound would always be fresh until the case has not yet finished. i have also told my friend that he should not blame himself because he has provided well for his family despite his low income..i keep on assuring him that he is a good father and it was not his fault that it happened..

It is very sad to hear such a news and it is unbearable.This type of news is now becomming common now a days.Some times this type of incident occurs because of fate.If it is really a fault from the nurse side,she should be terminated from the job.

yes, i have heard also of other cases here in our country wherein people die because of neglect of doctors, nurses and hospitals and i didnt imagine that it would happen to one of my friends.. and it really saddens me most especially that she was just a 9-month old baby.. and how we have even planned that i was going to be one of the godmother on her baptismal..
