Unpaid Credit Card Debt, What Could Happen Now?

Postby MacAdhaimh » Tue May 06, 2014 2:54 pm

My friend left California and went to live overseas a few years ago with some unpaid credit card debt.
The creditor was after him.
He needs to come back to California to deal with some family matters.
What could be the worst thing happen to him? will he get arrested in the airport if there's a civil warrent? Thanks for any advice.

We gave up imprisonment for debt several hundred years ago. If the creditor locates him, he can be served with a summons for a collection suit.
If he fails to answer the suit after service, a money judgment can be entered.Cathy Moran

Child support is a unique kind of debt.
Courts take as contempt the failure of a parent to support a child.Failure to obey a court order to show up for a debtor's exam might get you jailed.Failure to pay a garden variety debt IS NOT a criminal matter.Cathy Moran

Thanks for that response. Just thinking might that function as the situation that the cash view was already joined along with a municipal guarantee continues to be released? Seem like you have access to jailed in the event that you owe someone cash. Take a look at Bobby Brownis situation, he was jailed for 3-day before he settled the child support. I simply study that fresh on Google nowadays though I can not discover the link.
