I've been all those places exept LA.I have to say San Diego is definitely better than Tempe/Phx.At least in San Diego it doesn't get so hot the Devil wants to go home.(There's a poem out there somewhere about how the devil created the southwest, but he made it so hot he had to leave.)There are a lot more things to do in San Diego, too.

San Diego and Los Angeles have really degenerated in the last 30 years(I've lived in both). A good part of them are graffiti-ridden, rundown semi-slums, and Tempe, Arizona and Phoenix, Arizona are too hot!I would think that the best city to live in in California at the moment would be Santa Rosa(only an hour from San Francisco), and the best in Arizona to be Flagstaff(gateway to the Grand Canyon).
