Postby Eanraig » Fri May 02, 2014 5:59 am

Hi,I have a question. My husband is US citizenship and has a Canadian permanent resident card. He recently moved back in the States and wants to know what to do with his Prcard. Should he surrender it or just keep it. He still travel in Canada but just for pleasure. What will happen at the Canadian border?.Thank you

I would keep it.  It gives both of you the option of moving back to Canada.  Also, Canada can be a lovely place to retire to.   Crossing at the border shouldn't be a problem. He can show his US passport to get into the US and his Canadian resident card or his US passport to get into Canada for travel.  it's almost like having dual citizenship.   If you're thinking he has to turn the card in or something, that's not the case.  He's not renouncing his citizenship.  It's just Canada has awarded him permanent resident status if he chooses to use it.
