This morning I was involved in a 3-car accident. The other two cars were both in front of me. The front-most car slammed on her brakes to make a left turn from the traffic lane we were all in, ignoring the turn lane right next to her. The lady in front of me slammed on her brakes and I slammed on mine.
However, the roads were wet and my car slid when I hit my brakes. The one in front of me hit the lady who had stopped to turn and I hit the lady in front of me.
I know it's normally the driver who hits from the rear who is at fault, but can the lady in the front who made an improper turn from a through-lane of traffic be held liable for any damages? I should mention my car is severely damaged, the one in front of me had her bumper knocked down a bit, and the front most car barely got scratched, though she claims she was "slammed" into.
Is NC law going to hold me responsible for all damages, or could some of the blame be placed on the front car for turning incorrectly?
