Why aren't there any heterosexual Transsexual women in leadership positions in LGBT organizations?

Postby jung-hwa75 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 6:45 pm

As a heterosexual transsexual woman I feel that LGBT organizations are using us and falsely claiming to represent us. While there are many lesbian identified transsexuals the numbers that I have seen suggest 40% lesbian and 60% heterosexual transsexuals. With the numbers pointing to a larger percentage of TS women being heterosexual shouldn't that be represented in employment of them by LGBT organizations? By not hiring heterosexually identified transexuals aren't these organizations guilty of discrimination of those they claim to represent? As a heterosexual transsexual I have never seen outreach or have ever been asked about my needs by an LGBT organization. I would love to see this discrepency resolved before I feel the need to file a class action lawsuit against them.

Hmm that's interesting. I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that people very often falsely associate being transsexual with being gay. It could also be that homosexual transsexual people are more "out there" since they have two labels (I'm having trouble explaining what I mean). I do think that if you went to an organization that is supposed to represent you, they would. Are you saying they haven't reached out to you, or that you have tried but they ignored you? If you repeatedly notice that they ignore you in favor of lesbian transsexual women, then you should probably kick their butts and bring the media! It's an interesting point though and I wonder about it now.

I agree with Sharon. Hetero trans women blend into society more, until they virtually disappear. Many do not want to be associated with their former lives. I know several women who cut all ties with any other trans girl in order to go "deep stealth". Well, lesbian transwomen, for one are still in the LGBT community and often find a level of acceptance that they did not expect and therefore, they become our voices. For the women I know living deep stealth, volunteering for any LGBT organization would be out of character, volunteering to be involved in a trans program would be unthinkable.

With so few volunteers these organizations can't be choosy. Not many people want the out and proud kind of life. Many start out being that way, but most change over the course of transition and just want to move on with life.

A better question would be why are they so few overall (gay or straight). For example are there any at the HRC at present?

it comes down to what and why the "T" was tacked on to the end of the Gay and Lesbian movement, and if you as a person want to be associated with those who lay claim to their definition of that Letter.

Personally, the more people try to push their definitions of whom or what I’m supposed to be the more I want to disassociate myself with them.

I’m in a relationship which is defined by my spouse and I, we do not lay claim to any one particular social definition of what our relationship is, be it lesbian, gay or heterosexual. I present myself in all respects as an adult woman, who is active within her community. through volunteer work and various organizations.

in addition, I have a medical history of being both intersexed and having been afflicted with gender dysphoria, that medical history is simply that, it doesn’t automatically mean that I have to abide by the rules of a group of people who choose create a sub community outside of the community that I live and work in on a daily bases.

this attitude is why you don’t see many heterosexual leaders within the Gay and Lesbian community, and that is regardless of the individuals gender identity.

Addendum:

I agree towards equal rights for all people, but do not like to be classified or categorized under the Transgender label, for me the best avenue I have is through education and my presentation to those I work with every day. The point being is that I don’t care if a person identifies my medical history; I try to correct any misgivings by presenting a respectable individual.

I also do not belong to the HBS camp.

I do however support some of the youth programs and the IFGE, the transgender law center along with a few different organizations that follow similar beliefs.

As to marriage equality, I personally feel that by allowing religious rites to dictate above the United States Constitution is literally spitting upon the graves of our fore fathers and those who’ve given or put their lives on the line so that we could debate about such issues.

HRC = Human Rights Cowards, Honestly in my opinion HRC is a very bigoted towards anyone who is outside of their scope of straight acting gay males. They in any number of instances used trans people as political cannon fodder for a while

Generally speaking most transsexuals tend to prefer to blend into society rather than being out in the face of public scrutiny. We transition to normalize ourselves not to stand out like a sore thumb. As a result most transsexuals do not get involved in the "GLBT" community at all. It is not a matter of caring about civil rights etc. but rather the actual direction most of us take. Our motivation is diametrically the opposite of the "Gay Inc." patterns.
In the HRCowards there is but one transwoman working for them now. She is essentially a "token" trannie to them. She has no other purpose and that is what any of us would be seen as by them. Diego Sanchez attempted to recruit me to work for them back when the EndaGate scandal took place. It took them a long time to find someone totally clueless enough to swallow that hook. Diego is the "token" trannie working for Rep. Barney Franks. Same situation really.
You can try all you desire to reach out to the GLBT community and all you would get is lip service at best. It is just business as usual for them. We are but a joke to them in the real sense. EndaGate proved that point!
Had I been hired the the Cowards it would never have worked as I am far too outspoken and would probably removed the head and brains of Joe Solomonese by now!
