17 year old caught shoplifting-what are the repercussions?

Postby stein74 » Sat Dec 24, 2011 4:17 am

I got caught shoplifting, I behaved well. I attempted to steal $179 headphones...
under cover cop got me right when i was going to leave
took me to the back room
went to the police department
got my pictures taken and finger prints scanned.
I was released to my parents an hour later after everything was signed
As I was waiting I was talking to the cop and he said not to worry because I'm only being filed under the same charge of a traffic ticket under the village ordinance rather than state ordinance.
I have to go to the traffic court on the designated date the assign for me
I'm worried about my future occupation...
I have ambitions, I recently sent in my college applications, plan to study accounting and become a cpa and then run my own firm after a couple years of experience.
I'm worried about applications of any kind...
I know these two girls that stole around $150 worth of stuff when they were 14, they were recently accepted into really good colleges, but theysaid they hired a lawyer, something I don't have money for...
How bad are these charges on me?
I would like to end this by saying that I am truly remorseful... I was being stupid... and a whole lot more other things...

You will not be trusted...for a long time...by employers and others who will be important to your advancement in society. I hope you have learned that taking what isn't yours is wrong and will reform your behavior from this point forward to make better choices.

You probably wont look like the best option on the boss' desk, but do things like volunteering or become president of an important club at your school. Just do something to add more positive to your resume that would help overshadow the bad.

in about a year if you stay out of trouble you can get the incident expunged. Don't let it happen again. The most precious thing your parents gave you when you were born was your spotless name. What you do with it after that is on you.
