Dear Manoj    I am applying for change my surname. I am working in chennai from past 10 years and having own house. I was born in Andhra Pradesh and having permanent house and address Andhra Pradesh also. My children are studying in chennai and they are minors. 1)Am I apply from Andhra Pradesh?? 2)May I use final gazette as proof in tamilnadu! 3)Is gazette authentic evidence for name change in chennai?? My family is totally depends upon education. So please suggest me in this issue.

As you have your permanent address in Andhra Pradesh, then you have to apply for the name change in Andhra Pradesh. The gazette of Andhra Pradesh is valid throughout India and abroad and the same can be used as the final and authentic evidence by you any where.

1)After completion of surname change how many gazette to purchase from publication department

2)Is one gazette is enough for using it's xerox copy as proof of surname change??

3)In publication department web site I found leading agents locations[http://deptpub.gov.in/Leadingagent.htm]. Is it necessary to approach them??

After the name change is published in the gazette, they will send you a copy in your address. You do not need to purchase any gazette. One gazette copy will do as it is the conclusive proof. I would suggest you go directly and apply as it reduces unnecessary hazzles
