Are country flags trademarked?

I want to use the flags of country's in my book I want to publish to the iBookstore, am I allowed to?

National flags aren't trademarked, but there are generally rules surrounding the display of them; for example, you generally aren't allowed to depict a national flag defaced. most nations have their own code, here's the USA's code http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Flag_Code

The flags themselves are not trademarked or copyrighted. Particular depictions of them might be, though -- such as if you depict them on a flagpole, or waving in the wind.
