Postby Cale » Wed Aug 24, 2016 4:06 pm

I have a Elvis Presley Commemorative Collection First Day of Issue dated January 8, 1993 Limited Edition 8868/9500 Plaque with a certificate of authenticity signed by Ken Goldin, CEO Catch A Star Collectibles, Inc. Cherry Hill, NJ.  This plaque is dark wood with a marble effect and plexie type simulated glass cover protecting:(1)  an "Official Ballot" My Choice is check with a upper case A for the Elvis Rock & Roll Singer 1935-1977 29 cent stamp;  (2) 4 unused stamps that go with that ballot;(3) a Official First Day of Issue postcard size card with the same 29 cent Elvis stamp postmarked at Tupelo, MS on January 8, 1993 with zip code 38801 the postcard says Elvis, Elvis' Birthplace 306 Old Saltillo Road, Tupelo Mississippi as the return address; and(4)  a second a Official First Day of Issue postcard size card with the same 29 cent Elvis stamp postmarked at Graceland, Memphis, TN  38101.  This plaque and it's contents are in excellent condition still wrapped in the bubble wrap and original box.  On the back of the Plaque there is a sticker that says "Elvis and Elvis Presley are registered trademarks of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc."  copyright 1993.. Can you give me any idea what this item is worth or could you direct me to somewhere who could?   Thank you.

Kaye,

I can only give you perspective from a strictly philatelic point of view.  The 1993 Elvis commemorative is very common.  The USPS anticipated its poularity and printed over 500 million copies, which is about ten times more than a normal commemorative printing run.  The result is that the stamp has not appreciated in value much beyond face.  The first day covers have catalog(retail) values of $2 with Memphis cancels, or $3 with cancels from any other city.

There are businesses that specialize in arranging common, inexpensive stamps into attractive, expensive looking packaging, and marketing the results to novice collectors.  Perhaps Catch A Star Collectibles is such a business, I don't know.  I can only suggest contacting someone who specializes in Elvis collectibles.
