Can a client and her legal team make a defamation website against a company?

Hi,

We have a client who has created a defamation website against the company I work for which includes false information, full names of people, alleged incidents caused by other parties, false statements made by people we have never worked for. This was only made after my company had put a civil claim against them for non-payment of works outside that of the contract. The client had given us a substantial amount of extra work which we took on in the same alloted time scale. It has had some comments from the general public which paints a very unfair picture about us yet we choose not to reduce ourselves down to their level. How do we go about getting this website removed as the contents is libel and extremely petty? Yes we agree with freedom of speech and name and shame specially in the building industry but this is beyond that. A newer client who we have completed an extension for praised us in the complete opposite way and was shocked when she came across this website, even she is in agreement that this site made up doesn't sound like us and is very childish. Can a so called Legal Company who's director is the partner of our client do such a thing and still be legal?

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.
