Unions are essentially large groups of people who do basically the same thing that pay dues to a group who argue for the workers rights. The union is a seperate entity from the employer, and thus the employer, or manager, or boss, etc... cannot remove you from the Union you are a member of.
HOWEVER, the Union is NOT the employer, and while they can fight for your rights, and they can try to influence what you are paid, it is ultimately up to the employer. As long as your employers are abiding by Federal and State Fair Wage Laws, they can do whatever they want with your hourly pay, though generally they do have to give you notice before making a change like that.
