Can professor ethically/legally DOUBLE class hours?

Postby eilis » Sun Apr 08, 2012 6:46 am

Background information: I am a second year graduate student and I have a Saturday class that is normally scheduled 12:00-2:40pm

My professor cancelled class today at 9:00am and did so by sending the students an e-mail. She stated in the e-mail that, "we will be staying late next week". We were then informed by another professor that we will be having a six hour class because she cancelled today. Is this allowed?! I have been trying to find a policy on this but I haven't been able to locate anything. I just want to get opinions on what everyone thinks as to the ability a professor has to do this. I'd also like to know opinions on what individuals think I should do- what actions can and should I take? There is a long list of inappropriate things this professor has done and a group of students I are considering reporting her but I want to know if I'm wasting my time. Any information or directions would be helpful!!!

It's a graduate class. Those tend to meet at the whim of the professor. There's certainly no law against it. I'm not sure why you're protesting. It's not like you have to show up. If you've got other complaints, go talk to the department head.
