Prevailing laws vary. Did you retain your receipt? It's your proof to show to the clerk. Most often one can file for a refund and if the M.O. was not cashed after "x" days then they will process a refund. Do not wait for this to happen before you pay up. I'm sure the late fees would grow to wild proportions.Take the money order back to the place you bought, they usually will allow you to cancel it and get a refund of the face value (you don't get the fees refunded).
