Child Labor During The Industrial Revolution History Paper Help?

Postby shen86 » Thu Apr 07, 2011 10:46 am

I am supposed to complete a 10 page, MLA formatted history paper, double spaced and etc.
I picked the topic Child Labor during the AMERICAN industrial revolution...and I am having some great difficulties. I am a smart student, and have a 100% in that class..this is a junior in high school.
I am just curious...I have my thesis..I just can't find any information!!
I need a lot of help. Here is my thesis! (Don't copy this anyone..plus it probably makes no sense anyway..lol..)
The children during the American Industrial Revolution were faced with poor factory conditions, which led into movements that were against the child workforce, and resulted in a series of Act that abolished child labor across the continental United States.

I am thinking about adding something about how it impacted todays child labor laws and etc? To make my paper easier to write.
Beside that, I understand what I want to write about. I just can't find ANY good information online. Does anyone know anything that I could easily search that would help me?
Any decent sites that would make it easy to site my information in MLA format. I can't find any sites with authors or copyright dates!
And my school system even pays for worldbookonline, enotes, proquest, and more. I still can't find anything. All I get is info on the BRITISH industrial revolution..which I need american..industrial revolution..
Any help is greatly appreciated..:)

Child Labor During The Industrial Revolution History Paper Help?

This web site centers on Rhode Island, but it does site references at the end. There may be something you can use:

you may also find something of value here:

This one looks very promising...I wish there were more out there:

This is a great essay, it downloads from google in .doc format (MS Word), but if you do not have Word, you can select to download in Wordpad format:

This is an outline. I don't know if it will help much, but here goes:

Here is another actual article:

Well, I had to go through about 5 pages on google results to find the above links, so I definitely know what you mean about there being a lack of information out there. Not a lack, exactly, it is just difficult to find unless you want to pay for essays! I think at least one or two of them may help you. I would say, keep on looking, using different search arguments on google. One thing I would suggest is to always put "American Industrial Revolution" in quotes in your google search as it will cut down on the number of hits you get for the UK Industrial Revolution (I still got a few...).

Anyway, best of luck to you on your project and I hope this helps, a little. Your thesis statement is fine, one little thing, instead of the words "into movements", use "to movements", it is less choppy. And I think it was just a typo, but you left the "s" off of Acts. Good work, though. FYI, I am adding 2 websites with tips on writing thesis statements that you might find helpful for future projects. Take care.
