Two months ago, I went on a date with a classmate. At the end of the date, he asked me to be his girlfriend. I told him I thought he was being too serious, that I wasn't interested in being in a relationship, and that I was only interested in being friends. He was upset, but he agreed.
We had a few friendly meetings, like getting coffee, toward the end of February into the beginning of March, but he was still constantly flirting with me and even attempted to kiss me, so I told him that I had no interest in him and that he needed to respect my space. I cut off all contact with him; however, he has been constantly sending me very strange texts, such as "you know I'd do anything for you", "I'm hurting worse than I thought", "I live alone. I was a hermit. Then I met you.", "look w/e about respecting your space. if you are creeped out then too bad" and being very adamant that we meet in person to talk. I've been ignoring all texts from him and trying to avoid encountering him in class, but last week, he followed me out of the classroom and down a stairwell, calling my name. Also, although it may be by mere coincidence, I have also been running into him around areas of campus that I like to frequent, and he has also been publicizing on Facebook that he has been reading my favorite books, listening to my favorite bands, etc.
Last night, his texts became a little more disturbing than usual, so I demanded that he stop contacting me. Instead, he continued to send me over 20 texts between the hours of 11-4 am, and again at 7-8. These texts suggest, to me, that he may be mentally unstable.
The actions I have taken today, so far, have been to block all incoming texts/phone calls from him through my wireless carrier, block him on facebook, and to contact campus police. However, I still have to see him later today in class, as well as every Tuesday/Thursday for the remainder of the semester. I am uncomfortable with the idea of being in such proximity to him. I'm meeting with campus police tomorrow, but do you think I'm overreacting? Also, should I notify my professor about this problem?
