I got a paraguard IUD 8 weeks after the birth of my daughter(02/05/08). I was not informed about any complications or migration/perforation of the IUD by my OB-GYN prior to getting the IUD insertion. I had severe cramping pain for about next three days after the insertion. My repeated calls to my Ob-GYN were ignored and the nurse at my doctor’s place always took the call. The nurse said she has never had of any cramping and body aches due to IUD and that I might have a cold symptom. So I went to get Ultrasound to see if the IUD was placed correctly. The radiologist had trouble locating it and was not sure what an IUD looked like these-days. She thought she found the IUD and reported in her statement to the doctor that everything was fine and properly placed. I had lot of pain during and also after the examination. I started experiencing very bad moving pain in my lower abdomen. So I called my OB-GYN about the pain, the nurse said that they got the report from the radiologist confirming that IUD was properly placed, so it might be that I was developing a cold and to get it checked by a primary care physician. The primary care physician suggested I get had a pelvic ultrasound upon my immediate second visit. So then I had a CT and also another Ultrasound. The CT showed my IUD outside of my uterus. I under went emergency laproscopic surgery to remove the IUD the same day after the CT. The IUD had perforated my right tube and adhered to my lower bowel/bladder. Another Ob-GYN from the practice performed the surgery and said I will probably be able to have children again, but only time will tell. I now have medical bills and unnecessary burden on my body [still healing from childbirth], lost my milk supply due to this. Do you think I should file a case against my doctor who inserted the IUD incorrectly and radiologist who failed to locate the placement of the IUD? What are my options?
