I'm not really looking to seek legal action or anything since I'm almost positive it doesn't fall under any category of discrimination. I'm just simply curious of the answer to this question. I was recently called in for a job interview which I passed, did a drug test (and also passed) and was even told to start Monday at the new job and then later that day the employer called me back telling me I couldn't have the job because I had no GED or Diploma which they did not realize prior to the interview, drug test and job screening.
The employer said if I got my GED I'd still be eligible for hiring instantly but I'm currently enrolled in GED preparation classes which haven't started just yet and will take 12 weeks to complete so I'm pretty sure this job opening will not be around by then. I'm sure there will be other fish in the sea at a later time.
So I am wondering did this employer break any laws of discrimination by specifically citing my denial of employment strictly because of my education experience? Or, as I am guessing, are they entitled to require a certain level of education to hire in an employee? (makes sense I guess, right?)
