Do i need to get a lawyer if i am facing small claims court on a medical bill ?

i was served papers for small claims court on a medical bill of $768.50. I tried to call and make payment arrangements, but was told no way.. they want the balance in full. Should i proceed on my own accord or get a lawyer.. really can't afford a lawyer in addition to all the medical bills.

The use of an attorney in a Small Claims Court is not allowed. You should spend some time reading the laws.

Lawyers are usually frowned upon in small claims court.

If you owe the money, then you will likely lose. You need to bring financial documentation that you can't pay the full amount and plead with the court to set up a payment plan. Hopefully you will get a sympathetic judge.

You are going to end up paying the bill, the question is if it will be all at once or in payments.

handle it yourself. you really don't have much choice, you owe the $. of course they want their $ now but the court will let you make payments. if you don't have the total amount they have no choice but to accept payments. they're trying to bully you.
