Do original clothes labels need to be removed when clothes are resold?

Postby gofraidh34 » Mon May 07, 2012 7:46 am

I've noticed that on ebay, some sellers write that the labels of the clothes they are selling (i.e. the brand name label) have been removed to comply with resale laws. I can't find evidence of this law anywhere, should I be removing the original labels of clothes that I sell on ebay?

Also, if clothes are modified and then sold online (i.e. if some Topshop shorts have been dip-dyed and then resold), should the original labels be removed as the product has been altered?

I've never heard of any such law relating to items sold from within the UK.

I suspect the 'removed' ones may be counterfeit or grey imports rather than legitimate purchases.

Dyed items should also be OK, as long as you are absolutely honest in the description. You would not remove the make badges from eg. a car because it had been painted a different colour than original, it was still made by that company; I don't see any difference.

Not necessarily since you also have the right on the item/s when you bought it. So I think its fine to resale it with intact labels.
