This is governed by the law of the state where you were working when you were injured. Since you don't say where that is, I can only give you a general answer to your question.
When someone is injured at work as an EMPLOYEE, they are usually covered by workers compensation laws. Those allow you to go to a doctor who treats you for your injuries at no cost to you. That doctor can put restrictions on your work, i.e. don't lift anything more than 50 pounds etc. Your employer has to pay your wages for some period of time if you are out of work due to an injury but they may not have a light duty job for you to come back to work in w/ those restrictions.
The area of law you are asking about is called workers compensation. Most of the lawyers who take on those claims get their fees paid by your employer (not you!) so call one and get one to help you walk through this. My advice: go on line or to your local phone book and look for a lawyer who is board certified in workers compensation work, or who only does workers compensation cases (avoid the lawyer who does dog bites, maritime, landlord/ tenant, bankruptcy and anything else that walks in the door too). I am a lawyer w/ 25 yrs experience and don't know a thing about workers compensation. It is VERY SPECIALIZED so you need someone who does just that. They will help you for free and take care of you. You just have to take the time to find someone who specializes in it. The outcome will depend on it so do your homework.
