Does Gun Control, Control Criminals Behavior or Law Abiding Citizens Behavior?

Postby tim » Tue Dec 20, 2011 6:48 am

Law abiding citizens, naturally. Prof. John Lott wrote a great book on this very subject "More guns, less crime"

As for the people that say gun control somehow makes it easier to put criminals away longer, that is nonsense. Criminals aren't going to bother registering for their guns, first off. So, the vast majority of them will get their guns off the black market anyway!

And all we need to do to put them away longer if they are carrying a gun is simple. If they are caught breaking the law, any of the typical crimes that gang members commit, then you just say they are not allowed to have possess a fire arm for probationary period, just like they do in many scenarios, like driving for instance. Having some arbitrary gun control law that only hurts law abiding citizens does not affect criminals.

Does Gun Control, Control Criminals Behavior or Law Abiding Citizens Behavior?

Criminal behavior. A law-abiding citizen isn't really going to care that he has to wait 5 days for the gun he's going to hunt with or take to the range. Keeping it in a case in your trunk isn't a big deal either, and the rest of the gun laws generally apply to people who are doing other criminal acts while in possession of a gun.

A guy who just lost his job and wants to go back and kill everyone IS going to care about having to wait 5 days. A gang-banger who wants to do a drive-by IS going to care about not being able to keep his gun loaded and under his front seat.

both despite the mindless drivel of nutters.
Without gun control, the evidence to convict criminals would be very minimal requiring an eye witness to convict anyone.
Gun control is what allows enough evidence for forensic scientists to piece together a crime.

Don't blame anyone else because you aren't informed well enough to realize what benefits are gained from gun control.

Both. Having extra charges to throw at a criminal keeps them in jail longer and deters them.

Let's say the police break up a fight between gang members. A few people are found at the scene with registered guns, well nothing happens to those gang members.

Now imagine the police break up a fight and find illegal guns on the gang members. Now you've got a bunch of gang members in jail. Much better outcome.

Pick up someone on a drug charge and find a gun in his possession, if there are strong gun laws you can put that low-life away for a LONG TIME. If not then it's just a drug charge and they are out the next day, with their gun.

Both, stops criminal being able to buy bullets legally (because they'd need a gun licenses) ETC. Guns don't work for self defense, your more likely to shoot your own family than an attacker.

Law Abiding Citizens Behavior. Criminals could care less about gun laws.
