I had my aortic heart valve replaced due to endocarditis back in August of 2009. Since I am young, 26, they gave a mechanical heart valve. During a checkup when I was in the hospital for pneumonia they did an ultrasound on my heart and said that I have a leak around the edge of my heart valve from it being too small and that they'll have to replace the valve again in 5 years or so. WTF! This was told to me, nonchalantly, by EX-cardiologist, not the heart surgeon. I'm wondering if this counts as medical malpractice? Should I talk to a malpractice lawyer or go to another cardiologist for a second opinion? I'm really not looking forward to getting my chest cracked open AGAIN!
