Several of the characters in the novel knowingly break the law, and yet they are not portrayed as criminals. Estevan and Esperanza enter this country illegally, Mattie harbors them, Taylor transports them over state lines, and Taylor is involved in a scheme that includes lying to government officials to adopt Turtle. What message should a reader take form this novel that portrays these scofflaws as heroes? Why aren't they depicted as criminals? Explain.

I loved this book :) Taylor is a heroine because where would Turtle have been without her? She loves her and doesnt want to lose her. Turtle would be in foster care or still be molested from where ever she as before. Now she has a mother who loves her. She wouldnt have been able to adopt Turtle without lying.
